EU Lawmakers Endorse Support Package to Ukraine

(MENAFN) On Wednesday, the European Parliament gave its approval to a €90 billion ($107 billion) loan package for Ukraine, rapidly authorizing a substantial financial aid initiative intended to maintain Kyiv's public administration and defense strength.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen praised the swift passage of the measure, emphasizing the European Union’s ongoing dedication to supporting Ukraine.

"Ukraine's courage is unshakable. And so is Europe's resolve to stand by its side. Today and tomorrow! Because a strong Ukraine makes all of Europe safer," she stated on the US-based social media platform X.

According to the outlined plan, the EU assistance will be distributed to Ukraine via two principal mechanisms.

From the overall sum, €30 billion ($35.8 billion) will be allocated as macroeconomic backing, delivered either through macro-financial assistance programs or the Ukraine Facility, the EU’s specialized mechanism established to provide consistent and reliable fiscal aid to Kyiv.

The remaining €60 billion ($71.5 billion) is designated to enhance Ukraine’s defense manufacturing capabilities and facilitate the acquisition of military hardware, ensuring the country receives prompt access to defense supplies from both domestic Ukrainian producers and EU-based defense firms.

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola remarked that the decision represented "a vital lifeline" for Ukraine, highlighting that the financial support would safeguard the continuation of critical public services while strengthening the nation’s defense infrastructure.
