EU Urges Full Implementation of UN Resolution on Lebanon Ceasefire

(MENAFN) The European Commission has called for the complete enforcement of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, emphasizing the importance of upholding Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in the aftermath of a US-brokered ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel.

According to reports, the Commission welcomed the ceasefire as an opportunity to bring an end to hostilities and urged all involved parties to comply fully with its terms while halting all military operations without delay.

EU Commission spokesperson Anouar El Anouni said the European Union expects continued constructive engagement between the two sides through direct dialogue.

"We trust that Israel and Lebanon will continue direct negotiations in a constructive spirit. That being said, looking at the situation that we have at hand, we urge all actors to fully abide by the terms of the agreement and all military action should cease immediately," he told reporters at a midday briefing.

According to reports, the EU stressed that adherence to Resolution 1701 remains essential for maintaining stability in the region and preventing further escalation, particularly in light of ongoing tensions following recent cross-border developments.
